Common Loon Handle for Cane by Colorado Artist Tom Adkins
This 3D Loon commission was sculpted out of oak and attached to the top of a cane stick a friend had ready and waiting for the cane head. Loons have red eyes.

Tom designed the loon so that the hand could rest comfortably on the body of the Loon. The hand could be steadied by the bird's head and not push or fall off the handle.
Oak is a very hard wood that is hard to carve but is also quite sturdy and not easily broken. He wanted the grain of the wood to be a part of the design.
